Inspiring Thrillers

Jack Reacher
Jack Reacher was a really interesting thriller with many twists and turns throughout the film. I really enjoyed the film mainly because of Tom Cruises performance as Jack, especially the bar scene when Sandy and thugs want to start a fight with him. I would like to implement some of the effects Jack Reacher had in the film in to our media production if possible, the lighting in the film was exceptional which I think is something we can take away and use ourselves.

Bourne Ultimatum

Bourne Ultimatum was action packed leaving you on the edge of your seat throughout the film. Bourne's character is really interesting in the way he's trying to trace his steps and recover his past. I don't believe there is much we can take away from this thriller as it's more action based than ours.

Se7en

Se7en had a very suspicious feel to it which the murders and working out who it was that was committing them. I thoroughly enjoyed this film due to it's tension, especially at the end when they capture John Doe and have him in the desert.

Thriller audience research

http://staging.yourscene.nl/images/library/The%20Football%20Factory.jpgThe target audience of many thrillers is usually 18+, this is because many contain violent  and other disturbing scenes may be distressing for younger people. However, this shouldn't be an issue as DVD boxes clearly state the age restrictions and also give warnings of violent and disturbing content. Personally, I will be aiming our production at young adults as the production will contain violent aspects. It will most likely be a 16+. I believe films like Football Factory are similar to the audience I will be aiming our production act due to the fact that it's a 16+ . There's no specific location for the target of my audience and it's mainly aimed at the male gender.

Props

In our production, we didn't use many props as there wasn't much action going on in our opening sequence. However there were still a few like the frying pan, scarves, kettle, brown sauce and the photo when the character leaves the house. The character had to take precaution when using the frying pan that he didn't burn himself and have an accident. The frying pan (below).

Film Titles

For the film titles, we decided to use a bold simplistic title as we thought it would be most effective in the opening sequence. We researched many different fonts and thought that this one would be best for our project. We looked at the fonts 'Se7en' and 'Bourne Ultimatum' used. We look at many others too but we saw the font above as our best option.

Filming Schedule

I will be filming all of the media project on the 9th of December giving us enough time to be able to edit the project and add all the necessary effects.

The group will start off by filming the outside scenes when it's dark to be able to get the certain setting we want. The first shot will be a long shot of one group approaching from some gates. The next shot will be of another group approaching from the opposite side until it fades away leaving a message saying '10 hours ago'. This is when we will need to film the scenes in the house. The first shot will be a close up shot of the character making breakfast. The camera will then pan around and go through a wall to the other group watching television with their football scarves on ready for the game. The camera will then hopefully go back through the wall to the other character eating breakfast. The camera will again go back through the wall to the group watching football on the television before fading back to the other character putting on his shoes and leaving the house. There will then be a shot of the other characters leaving the house. A title will be at the end of the clip saying 'Match day'.

If everything goes to plan, the clip should look really effective without any problems.

Evaluation Question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Looking back at the preliminary, I think that I improved the quality of lighting dramatically in the full product as the preliminary task was really dark and had a grain look about it. I also think the acting was much improved in the full product from the preliminary as the preliminary acting wasn't good at all as it was two people sat at a table looking rather uncomfortable. I have also learnt that to be able to construct a decent full product you need to take a lot of time planning making sure everything goes smoothly, if not your final product can end up being disastrous.I have also learnt about the setting and how it important it is to get the right atmosphere when filming a scene. I feel as if I have progressed further when learning to edit over time with the overlaying titles. However, I have learnt that the encoding of the clip can drastically decrease the quality of the film and the lighting can go horribly wrong. Below there's an image of our preliminary task to get used to filming and editing a project, I think we learn a lot from this task. The lighting wasn't great in our preliminary task which allowed us to be able to plan ahead and make sure that didn't happen when we filmed the real thing. This is also the case with the sound which didn't sound great. The preliminary task helped us find out who wasn't great at acting too, I am pictured below in the preliminary task. I didn't perform well as I don't like being in front of the camera which is why it was important to find people who weren't camera shy to be able to perform in our project.
